I booked a shoot with Ruby after following her on Instagram for a year or so. I’m not a model, I just like dressing up and interesting photos.
What I liked about Ruby’s photography was the colours and drama. Many of the images seemed to me like authentic dark fairy tales which is different to other shoots I have done before and wanted to be part of that.
Before the shoot Ruby asked what I wanted and for mood board suggestions. One thing I said I would like were smoke bombs!
Ruby then scouted out locations, fallen down trees, a viaduct to make my shoot unique to me. She brought along props such as a mirror, a candlestick - and the smoke bombs!
She suggested poses and took time to get several different angles etc. She didn’t seem hurried which was good.
When I got the photos back the first thing my daughter said was ‘they are very Ruby Hyde!’ When I see photographer’s work I always take into account that I am not a model so my poses and expressions may not be perfect but I always hope the end result will look like the artwork that they produce for themselves or others. This is exactly what Ruby delivered: atmospheric shots with intriguing lighting and colours highlighted and accented.
I would hope to see Ruby again and that I believe is the best recommendation.
I commissioned Ruby for a creative portrait. Ruby’s photos had my heart racing. Really extraordinary work. She took great care in creating a gorgeous edit and was so present on the day that we were able to enter the magic zone of subject and photographer. Ruby has a lovely lightness about her and a mischievous darkness in her creative aesthetic. I was very impressed.
